Every time the trail takes me through the village of Placencia, despite where my lodging accommodations might be located along the peninsula, as soon as possible after I drop off my backpack I land on a barstool at The Pickled Parrot Bar, Grill and Cabanas. Indeed since the first time I went to Placencia in 1996 and stumbled under the thatch roof at the Pickle Parrot, it has been my watering hole choice in Placencia.

Pickled Parrot owner Wende Bryan and her manager sister Denise Williams serve up ice cold Belikins, One Barrell Rum delights and some of the best food in Placencia. Made to order from the freshest ingredients, menu selections include fresh seafood, homemade pizzas, mango rum chicken, quesadillas, fajitas, burgers and salads. The daily ‘Happy Hour’ is from 5 to 6pm, during which you can try a ‘Belizean Breeze’, ‘Yellow Birds’, ‘Blue Holes’, ‘Belizean Hurricane’ or the infamous ‘Parrot Piss’. And if you are on a budget, try a ‘tropical rum punch’ for only US$1.00.
