Even for those that live and work on the island, Ambergris Caye is synonymous to beaches as far as the eye reaches and turquoise Caribbean waters, simply pure enjoyment. For the occasional visitor, many days are spent lounging around in beach chairs in the white sand or poolside at one of the numerous hotels. Of course scuba diving is the major sport that brings people to the island from all over the planet, but there are other, dry sports that can fill your day in San Pedro. For instance biking as far south and north on the Caye as roads and trails will allow you, or jogging along the beach. But the best entertainment I found was beach volleyball right there in front of the Blue Tang Inn, located in the northern part of San Pedro on the beach. The best time of course is late afternoon, when the sun starts to descend and the air cools down a bit. There are always plenty of players and its great fun. If you don’t want to play, enjoy your happy hour watching the games from your porch at the Blue Tang Inn or their poolside deck.
